How to improve Firefox rendering speed?

Any tips to improve rendering speed in Fedora? I notice it's very, very slow compared to Firefox on Windows, and Safari on Mac.

I know my hardware is quite old, but it should behave similar to Windows...

Thinkpad T42
Pentium M 1.7Ghz
2GiB RAM
ATI Radeon 7500 Mobility 32MiB
320GiB HD@7200rpm

Have a look through the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any errors (lines that start with (EE) or warnings (WW). It's possible your hardware acceleration has a problem.

Update to 3.6 improved speed here very much. Btw. one problem is, that the SSE2 commands are not properly implemented in the Linux-version ( see Wine vs. Native)

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.

2. Now right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

This step will vastly improve Firefox rendering speed. Here is a real helpful page on configuration tips for Firefox:
