Fedora 12 - Wifi Issue

I just upgraded from FC 11 to 12 and my wifi is gone. I am using a Broadcom chipset and the b43 module is loaded.

It's hard for me to copy and paste the results I've been getting because I have no connectivity on that computer. Anyway, I get the following results from dmesg:
Broadcom 43xx driver loaded
udev: renamed network interface wlan0 to wlan1
..
...
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan1: link is not ready

NetworkManager doesn't show my wifi AP. Also, I have tried using system-config but I'm not able to manually set the essid.

Any help?

Hello raisen,

I noticed that even with a fresh installation of Fedora 12 that my wireless interface could get named something other than what I had been used to in the past (e.g., wlan1 instead of wlan0). In a new install it doesn't really matter. In an upgrade it might. One thing to consider is /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. Before I stopped caring about it, I would edit that file to change the interface name back to wlan0. Another thing to consider is an alias in the old installation that uses the old interface name. I think if you clean up the interface name in those places (and possibly in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and /etc/sysconfig/networking), and maybe delete any old existing connections in NetworkManager, then it may work again. No promises.

I was finally able to solve my issue. It was kinda tricky.

First, I had to change my network security from WPA to WEP so I could bypass NetworkManager.
I configured my card to static IP and ran the ifup wlan0 command
So I got the wireless working.

Whenever I ran yum update, I had over 1000 packages to upgrade. So perhaps the upgrade process by the DVD wasn't successful?

Everything is working fine now though. Thanks for your help.
