Update first or setup rpmfusion first?

Something I haven't see explained or discussed here. On a new install should we do a full update and then setup the rpmfusion repositories or setup the rpmfusion repositories and then do a full update?

Hi glennzo

Surely, you don't invoke the rpmfusion repositories until you need them. say for example for a video driver or for some other thing like a multimedia codec.

If you don't need things like that then there is no benefit in having rpmfusion enabled. As soon as you do need things from the repository then it becomes available for updates as well.

Hello bbfuller. I did the update first then setup rpmfusion. Now we'll see if we can get some media types working.

Glad it's all settled, but I'm thinking that it shouldn't matter which way you did it. Since none of the original packages came from RPMfusion, an update really shouldn't have changed anything with or without them included.

FWIW, immediately after installation, I update. Then I add rpmfusion.

Same here. A full update is usually the very first thing I do after an install. However, in this situation, there probably would be no difference in doing the update or setting up the rpmfusion repos first. set up the rpmfusion repos first, then do an update, you would still get the very same packages updated unless you have gone in and installed something from rpmfusion first.

I always do an update when installing, so it install with the latest packages, which tales longer to install but quicker
in the long run (i think) so yes i install rpmfusion last.
