Cool Updating mime types

greeting all:

Can someone explain to me, what things happen when the process "Updating mime types" is called in a build process?

I am trying to write and create a setup.py file .... And it works great in ubuntu/ Debian, but not Fedora? It is under a "posix" subroutine. I have come to understand that not all "posix" works the same. It is too broad of a category...

Thanks for any help that is available and given...
