KVM Virtual Host + autostart VMs locking up host

After some recent updates on some Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 64-bit systems running with Bridge interfaces as KVM hosts, both systems are locking up when booting.

The problem seems to relate to the autostart of Virtual machines on the hosts. By turning off the autostart of the VMs, the VM hosts start fine. Manually starting the VMs also works fine.

Has anyone else experienced any problems from recent updates? If so, I will log a bugzilla report.

cheers .. .david

Which version of the kernel are you using on your Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 systems?

Understood, when your system locks do you get a kernel crash?

If so, then see these two Bugzilla entries which have KVM and kernel crashes.

* Bug 533087 - kernel crash with kvm virtual machines -

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=533087

* Bug 545851 - KVM/networking-related crash? -

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=545851

If this is not as similar to your experience, then I would suggest the Bugzilla entry as you are thinking.

Hope this helps.

Great ... you got it. Appreciate the lead.

My problem related to info on kernel crash with kvm virtual machines
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=533087

Based on a lead there, it appears the problem might relate to systems with bridge networks + ipv6 + autostart of VMs.

I have added following info to the bug report ...

"If Autostart is enabled for at least one VM, the systems are hard locking at
reboot.

However, if ipv6 is disabled, the host boots normally and the VMs autostart up
as normal.

I have disabled ipv6 by editing /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and adding the line:

install ipv6 /bin/true

If I remove all autostart options and re-enable ipv6, the KVM host starts fine,
and the VMs can be manually started without any problems.

Hence, it appears there is a conflict (possibly just for systems using bridge
networks) when ipv6 is enabled and VMs are configured to autostart."

Great for adding content as well as pertinent contact data, now as updates/more inquiries occur you are in the loop.

David, Fantastic!!!

Please, have a good one! :v)
