Dropbox and F12

I'm a DropBox enthusiast, and used it without any difficulties under F11. For F12, I've downloaded and installed the tool without a glitch, but whenever the app starts, it hangs up on 'Connecting', and doesn't go anywhere. I'll ask on their forum too; later.

Internet works fine (hey, I'm typing this, right?). Can visit their site, no problem. And SELinux is in permissive mode. Have no other firewall than standard installed on 64-bit systems.

What could it be?

Thanks. I installed F12 at school too - my IT head wants to migrate the whole school (30 odd computers) to Fedora, and I'm helping him experiment. There it works too. Perhaps I had a corrupted installer. I'll try again before I search more.

Wow, that would be great to have the whole school running Linux/Fedora!

Way to go

Yeah, well... There are a few people we can't force to migrate: the owner of the school, the principal, and the digiterate (read technologically incompetent) office staff. Most teachers seem curious, especially when we mention that there are no viruses.
Then we'll also be teaching the kids Linux (Fedora). With F12 it's come a lot closer as network printing to a Windoze server has become a lot easier (although a FujiXerox DocuPrint 204A won't print over the network yet, but I'm convinced I can make it work! )... But I'm digressing. Dropbox retry is under way. First reboot.

Edit: uninstalled DropBox. Updated. Rebooted. Re-installed. Done. Now it works. It seems I had a corrupt download.

I find now that drop-box keeps doing it, if it runs at startup, but the internet connection isn't up yet. If it can't get to the internet instantly, it hangs up on 'connecting'. If that could be the case, don't run it at startup, and load it manually after you've connected to the internet.

Well, it's almost the same case as if you restart it manually, just after it fail For me it's not a solution, as we do lot of documentation sharing between users with it, and of course somebody will forget to launch application . Is there any way to postpone autostart till the moment when connection established?

There might be, but I'm not sure how. The solution I had was to buy a different router, that logs into the internet for me. So I power the router, and the internet connection exists before my computer tries to connect to even the network... Problem solved.

Hm, well, It could be the router problem in some cases. I am pretty sure it isn't in my, because for 101% router is connected to the internet before I start up the fedora.
Btw, what are you using , Ethernet or WiFi ?
In my case it's WiFi. Probably the problem is in some kind of lag with WiFi authentication.

Re: Dropbox and F12

I still had this problem in F14 and setting up my connections available to all users has solved it cause I think the connection is stablished before the user login (System -> Preferences -> Network connections -> Select the connection, click Edit and check "Available to all users")

(Sorry to ressurect this old thread, but this was helpful for me and it seemed unsolved, maybe can help someone else)

No apology needed. This is an interesting thought. I never had more than one user on my computer when I ran F12; but I do now on F14, so I automatically made the connection available to all... And indeed, I don't have the problem in F14.

Thanks for sharing!
