Some help getting Mono installed?

After quite a bit of reading I'm beginning to understand the licensing concern over including Mono in Fedora. It does seem to be headed in that direction, but not in the short term. I suppose more lawyers have more reading to do first. At any rate, installing Mono under Core 2 was quite simple with yum. Any tips for core 3 (and yes, 3rd party bad, test version, blah blah, ... this IS how I test) installation of Mono? Can I use those same repositories as core 2? PLEASE don't tell me I'm going to have to download all the sources and build them.

There is a source rpm at the repository. If the Fedora 2 package doesn't work, you can get the *.src.rpm and build and install it:
Code:
rpmbuild --rebuild mono*.src.rpm
You may have to install rpmbuild first:
Code:
yum install rpm-build

Thanks for the info. That version of mono is something like 0.31. They are at 1.0.2 now "officially". I finally worked it out by installing all the individual RPM's from the main MONO site (for Fedora Core 2). I never could get the YUM repository to work (the main one listed on go-mono).

One strange thing is there are a TON of packages with no ordering of packages. As it turns out from reading I could have set a local directory as a yum repository and let YUM work out the inter-dependencies and install it that way... man I wish I had run across that info before manually installing all those packages... but I ultimately had to use some RPM --nodeps to finally get it completely installed. No matter what I did certain core packages wouldn't go... one kept complaining that I didn't have some gtkhtml package which I could never get working properly and wasn't included in the Mono package list. Another was some vague reference to a SOAP in the System.Web package without which you can't install a huge number of the packages. Ultimately everything "appears" to be working now. I guess we'll just have to see.

I just wished I had enough talent in packaging so that I could package some proper mono packages for livna.org. That way we could enjoy the beauty of the mono applications that's coming along (muine, blam and more).
