OK, crashes in the F11 partitioning tool are not uncommon to me, since I installed several times. What I got used to is the following procedure for the liveCD:
1. Start the installation. When it gets to partitioning, choose custom partitioning and create at least the following partitions:
- /boot as ext3
- / as ext4
- /home as ext4
Its very likely that the installer crashes at some time after that step. If you are still in the live environment, start over again and check, whether the installer has created the partitions. If the partitions exist, just select them and assign filesystems and format them.
If they have not been created, do as described above and create them. This may sound ridiculous, but my experience is that the installer on some systems seems to have problems if partitioning is done during the installation process. You may therefore create your partition layout before attempting to install F11. You may also choose to install F12 RC, since I haven't seen these problems with F12.
