Question Anybody do cellphones? [Motorola V3M]

Hello everybody.

Today I bought a new cellphone (the old one was already deaf and practically tearing apart), this time a Motorola V3M. At first I was a little concerned that it would be too different from the Nokias I am used to, and even though it is indeed different, I find it rather nice.

There is a problem, though with the cellphone regarding its expansion capabilities. According to the website it supports up to 1GB of storage expansion (MicroSD), but I was only able to get a 2GB card.

I've already checked and the phone has problems with that memory (different issues appear but bottom line is that I can't benefit from the memory.

Is there something I can do to make it work? Or, am I forced to get a 1GB card?

Thanks,
Joe.

This is a serious longshot, but I guess it depends if it's a hardware or software limitation.

You could try partitioning the 2gb so it has just a single 1gb partition (at the start), and leave the rest unallocated.

I'd give that maybe a 1% chance of working though.

Your bet. I tried that already and it didn't work.

Besides I received this morning an email from Motorola telling that wasn't possible.

So I guess I am screwed on that and will have to haunt/trade for a 1GB card.

Thanks,
Joe.

Why not get a newer phone that supports the 2 GB (or more) card? Those V3Ms are getting outdated.

Well, the fact is that it is my new phone. Unlike with computers, I don't find myself in search for the newest phone in the market. (In fact it is newer than the other I had).

Thanks,
Joe.

Hi Joe. I'm thinking that 1G limitation hints a software limitation rather than hardware. Check that partition and farmat as fat16. If it flys, thank ms lawyers.

Joe what I meant is that the V3M is outdated by a few years. You could grab a newer phone with better technology off ebay for next to nothing if you know where to look.

I am curious, how outdated? How many years? I've been unable to find information on that regard. I just got the phone yesterday and like it a lot already: it's so pretty and handy. Of course having used Nokia phones only I am experiencing a learning curve but it is OK.

Bottom line it does pretty much the same as my old Nokia 6255. If you are wondering why I chose a CDMA phone (rather than a GSM), that's because the carrier of my choice uses only that technology (yeah, I like to stay with the underdog).

Thanks,
Joe.

Well, many high-tech phones are available here as well. Of course not the latest as in the States but the major carrier here has the Iphone 3G (Blackberries are available from several carriers). As for me I don't want to throw away a lot of money in phones, and as I mentioned, I prefer to use smaller carriers.

Thanks,
Joe.

I had the RAZR once. Didn't like it. Too easy to break. On the other hand I've never been satisfied with any phone completely. I came close with the HTC Touch.

Really? Is it to easy to break? How? What would you suggest me to do to take care of it?

Thanks,
Joe.

Well the RAZR was known to have a weak hinge. Battery cover likes to come off easily. The whole phone is too flexy.

Depends on how you use it and take care of it I guess. I still like how thin the phone is and the keypad is outstanding.
