newsgroup server

what kind of software do you guys use for downloading from ( paid )newsgroup servers?

i ask this question, because i want to migrate from Vista to Fedora, upon the release of Fedora Core 12.

I am looking for a same tool like GrabIt

If you're primarily interested in downloading files from newsgroups, pan gets pretty good reviews. It's available in the repositories.

yum install pan

Don't know anything about Grabit so I can't offer a comparison.

Thunderbird will handle newsgroups too.

Ahh, but alas - Thunderbird isn't the greatest for those, errr, binary newsgroups.

Oh, yeah. Should also add... I've had success running GrabIt with WINE, but it's been awhile since I've hit the newsgroups.

I use pan that is pretty flawless. Very good program.

If you are looking for something to upload to newsgroups (as pan doesnt) then I developed a script that does that if you are interested. Of course its free under gpl.
The script is called Newsposter6 and available from my humble website:

Any thoughts on providing upload of binaries support? Like have it rar them up and create par2 files with some type of editor for the nfo file?
