I'm running Fedora 11 on an Asus M50 laptop, which has the following optical drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N. I've been having issues getting discs to mount (though until just now I was able to burn CDs just fine), and unfortunately I've had a hard time reproducing the various problems. Some relatively consistent symptoms, however, have been:
*Discs will only mount within a few seconds after being inserted or shortly after startup, and only upon using "mount" in the command line;
*It seems as though I can only mount one disc per boot (if I'm lucky);
*I am unable to eject CDs by any means (other than a paper clip, of course) once I have inserted one, regardless of whether it has been mounted;
*The icon in the Computer folder (computer:///) for the optical drive disappears and reappears (I haven't yet figured out whether there's a pattern to it). Even when it appears, it is completely useless (can't mount/unmount/eject/read discs with it, even if the disc has already been mounted).
That being said, I would greatly appreciate it if someone who might have some clues would let me know where to go from here, and if there a config files, etc. that it would be helpful to post on here. Or if there are packages I might need, tools to help diagnose the problem, etc. etc.
