use Dolphin or Konqueror in Gnome

Hi,

I am trying to get Dolphin or Konqueror to open mounts on a Gnome desktop rather than nautilus.

The reason for this is because I have noticed severe lag when browsing through windows shares. After testing and reading forums I have come to the conclusion that it is nautilus that is causing this lag. When testing with Dolphin under KDE on the same machine I was able to go through the shares without any issues.

I have found the following topics on the subject:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=297359
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=299927
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DefaultFileManager

I have managed to get the users home link to open up in Konqueror but when I apply everything from the above links I get a blank desktop.

Ideally I would prefer the desktop to carry on using Nautilus but have the mount links open up with konqueror.

Before anyone suggests to just use kde:
I'm working on a school network where I have already locked down the Gnome Desktop
The head of IT specifically requested Gnome rather than KDE
I'm hoping the above way will be easier for me.

Saying that, if I can't do it this way I will use KDE once I have sorted out locking down the desktop.

Regards,
Adam

Might of solved my own problem.

As the main concern is getting the mounts to use something other than nautilus I have used the gconf-editor to not show volumes on the desktop.

I have then created an application link on the desktop to open dolphin in the locations of the share.

I can also use part of the guide above to set gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop to use dolphin so if a users accesses the share through the menu it will use dolphin.

All i need to do then is to write a script to go through all the users on the profile server and drop the appropriate links on their desktops and then run a script on each of the machines to install dolphin...

Now I just need to figure out the best way of installing dolphin without the rest of the kde apps that are not needed
