Real Player 11 and x86_64

I'm having trouble with Real Player 11 on x86_64 on Fedora 11. Real Player is working fine on my laptop which is on Fedora 11 but 32 bit. These are the error messages I'm getting.

[root@quad dan]# realplay

** (process:21291): WARNING **: Unsupported locale en_US.utf8! Please use a locale with .UTF-8 suffix! For example: export LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8

(realplay.bin:21291): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "nodoka",

** (realplay.bin:21291): WARNING **: Could not create helix engine. Make sure your helix libs are installed at: HELIX_LIBS=/opt/real/RealPlayer
[root@quad dan]#

I just installed Fedora 11. Real Player was working fine on my 64 bit Fedora 8 system.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

You said it was working fine on your Fedora 8 x86_64 and your Fedora 11 i586 machines? x86_64 is a little funny. You have a "lib" and a "lib64" folder. Thus the applications aren't looking into both folders.

The error messages you're getting basically have the text "No such file or directory" in them. That's an indication that your application is missing some libraries. Is the Real Player program a 64 or 32bit app? Either way, try to install the the related architecture libraries. I'm not in front of my computer so I can't tell you exactly what commands to run, but when you find the app, either install the 64bit or 32bit versions of it.

You can search YUM to see what packages offer certain libraries:
Code:
# yum provides */{library your looking for}
http://linux.die.net/man/8/yum

Hi FergatROn,

Sorry for not explaining this better. I have a desktop and a laptop. I first installed Fedora 11 on the laptop to see if the programs I use will still run. I had to install the 32 bit version on the laptop. There were a couple minor problems and were quickly resolved. I then decide to install Fedora 11 on my desktop machine. Because of the memory size I installed the 64 bit version. I found that RealPlayer and Skype would not load. The sound was completed broken with only clicking sounds but nothing understandable. Flash was also broken. Since can't do without the desktop for more and a day or two, I installed the 32 bit version and everything is working.

Could you tell me more about the lib and the lib64? Is there a /usr/lib and /usr/lib64? Would it be possible to tar off the /usr/lib from the 32 bit version and install those files in the 64 bit version? Do you think this would fix my problems?

Hi FergatRon and ddan,
I think there is a bigger picture than just a RealPlayer that is not working. Fedora has been updating there OS so frequently and with no backward compatibility that can drive any user crazy. I have started with the First Fedora and before them there was Caldera that went off the map and before them there were Redhat downloads and before them there was non as famous as these. What am I having problem with, not how easy and colourful the start installation but the post configuration. When you starts to configure your system with your needed Software. When you think you are close to get it done in 6 month boom a crash happens ... a conflicts happen (SW packages are not compatible). If you do what I have been doing in the last year in particular you get a blank screen or un-unstable system, then you say to yourself, boy I was not educated enough; then you try upgrading to the latest version thinking that you are now skilled and can do it very fast and what you get with the new download is almost new OS that have different packages, different libraries and different conflicts. The cycle goes and goes on. I wasted a lot of time. Now .. you might call me stupid and if you don’t I better do it myself. I support Open Source and Linux... I think its great and its appreciated to those who work on it to bring the latest version but what use if the user cycle goes in a crazy cycle

..If RealPlayer 64bit from the nightly site works .. Then something else is broken.... I hope that Fedora or RedHat have a working Server version that I can get with no problems like these even if I pay.

I'm thinking about going to Windows...it has been too many years missing with this.
