Try

Quote:
# yum groupinstall "Gnome Desktop Environment"
OR

Quote:
# yum groupinstall "KDE (K Desktop Environment)"
To check whether you have X windows installed try:

Quote:
# yum grouplist
If you don't then:

Quote:
# yum groupinstall "X Window System"
What is the error message you are getting when trying to install through yum?

I didn't know there was such a thing as Fedora Server? The system might be booting in runlevel 3 and already has GNOME installed. If there's really a Fedora Server then I've been living under a rock. Cheers!

The more information you can give us, the likelier someone will be able to help resolve your issue.

Please post what you get when you type this at the terminal:

Quote:
$ runlevel
Also, please post on the forum what error message you get when trying to install gnome or kde through yum.

Please answer the question made by jajabor: what's the error message you get when you try to install KDE or X through yum? Just saying "none works" makes it impossible to offer any suggestions for help. Always quote the exact command you used and the response given by the system. It's easy to cut and paste those from a ssh window.

Runlevel 3 is the right one for a remote server. You need to sit at a display, keyboard and a mouse directly connected to the machine to use runlevel 5.

As root type:

Quote:
# init 5
That should get you into runlevel 5. Also check your /etc/inittab file

Quote:
# cat /etc/inittab
Mine says this:

Quote:
id:5:initdefault:
meaning it is booting into X Windows.

Post any error messages please.
