    RAID problems

    Hi,

I've got a problem with my onboard RAID. I have 4 HDD's and want to have a RAID 10. The configuration in the BIOS works fine. Now I try to install a Fedora 11. In the diskmanager their is only one of my 4 four disks with the name sda.
My board is a Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H. Does anyone know how to get the RAID running or is the only chance to use software RAID?

    Thanks,
    Markus

Try booting a rescue or livecd and post the output of

    su -
    dmraid -r

Here is the output from the livecd

    [root@localhost ~]# dmraid -r
    /dev/sdd: pdc, "pdc_bafbccaha-1", stripe, ok, 976639872 sectors, data@ 0
    /dev/sdc: pdc, "pdc_bafbccaha-1", stripe, ok, 976639872 sectors, data@ 0
    /dev/sdb: pdc, "pdc_bafbccaha-0", stripe, ok, 976639872 sectors, data@ 0
    /dev/sda: pdc, "pdc_bafbccaha-0", stripe, ok, 976639872 sectors, data@ 0
For me this looks ok but anaconda seems to have a problem.

The installer from the livecd also has this problem.

That looks okay to me also. Could be yet another bug in anaconda. I have only used anaconda with raid 0 or raid 1 not raid 10. What do you see from?

    ls /dev/mapper

    dmraid -s -s

Yes it does look okay. I have no idea why anaconda would show you /dev/sda it should show you /dev/mapper/pdc_bafbccaha which is your raid 10 array.

You might try dmraid -vvv -r and see if it is discovering any bad or leftover metadata on any of the drives also.

and again looks good. i tried to start anaconda from the livecd now with option --dmraid and --nodmraid with the same result. also i am currently downloading f12 alpha. they changed something in mdraid. maybe this helps but actually i am not very optimistic anymore but we will see.

Well I know anaconda works with raid 0 or 1 but the big question is does it work with 10? My Promise Fasttrak 100 TX2 controllers don't have raid 10 in their BIOS just Span, 0 and 1 so I was never able to test it. So we should search for anaconda and raid 10 in bugzilla, or with google.
