Confused regarding gtk+

I downloaded a theme package, then dragged it into Themes, getting the message that it installed correctly. However, when I tried to change to the theme, I got a message that it wouldn't look right because GTK+ wasn't installed.

OK, I thought, I'll install it..... so in Terminal, I typed
sudo yum install gtk+
but after a few lines of scrolling, I saw the message that GTK+ was already installed and updated.

Hmmmmm..... what do I do now?

Try,

sudo yum install gtk2

Hmmm..... I just tried that and got:
Package gtk2-2.16.5-1.fc11.i586 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do

This is just an ugly workaround, not a real solution, but I've sometimes gotten a balky theme to work by taking its .gtkrc or .gtkrc-2.0 file and putting a copy in my home directory, or in the .gtk-2.0/ directory.

There are also a couple 3rd party theme switchers that sometimes work when the default Preferences utilities don't - lxappearance is one I use with openbox.
