Question Presonus Firebox and Fedora 11

Hey, I'm wondering how I can sync my Firebox with Fedora 11. Someone on an Ubuntu forum said that they installed freebob and jack and were able to type "jackd -d freebob" in the console and it worked. I installed jack and freebob using RPM, but when I type the above here is what I get:
jackd 0.116.1
Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others.
jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details

JACK compiled with System V SHM support.
loading driver ..
Freebob using Firewire port 0, node -1
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:457:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory
FreeBoB ERR: Error opening ALSA sequencer.
FreeBoB ERR: -----------------------------------------------------------
FreeBoB ERR: Error creating midi device!
FreeBoB ERR: FreeBob will run without MIDI support.
FreeBoB ERR: Consult the above error messages to solve the problem.
FreeBoB ERR: -----------------------------------------------------------

libiec61883 warning: Failed to allocate bandwidth.
FreeBoB ERR: Could not start streaming threads
LibFreeBoB ERR: Could not do CMP for connection 0
DRIVER NT: could not start driver
cannot start driver
Segmentation fault
I also installed qjackctl and here is an error I get when it first starts:
11:45:20.503 Patchbay deactivated.
11:45:20.560 Statistics reset.
11:45:20.561 Could not open ALSA sequencer as a client. ALSA MIDI patchbay will be not available.
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:457:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory
If anyone could help me figure this out I'd much appreciate it. I have no idea what I'm doing.

We need more details:

I didn't know what a Firebox is; so I searched and found this link http://www.presonus.com/products/Det...px?ProductId=4 is this what we are talking about?

Also we need to know what system you are talking about; I like smolt I have an example here http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...ighlight=smolt

We need to know more about your Sound card; which seems to me one issue at least.

But I don't know Jack about jack or Firebox; but I can learn, seems interesting; but first you have to give a dog a bone so we know what we are chewing on.

Yes, that's it. There is an LED at the upper right that is currently red. It will turn blue when it syncs with the OS.

Ah, the Firebox is my sound card. I have two speakers that are plugged into the two main outs (left and right) of the Firebox. If I can't get this working I will just have to go without sound.

Here is the problem; I don't see an Audio controller in your profile; don't know what that means if anything; I take it that you don't have a built in one or you can turn it off in the BIOS; but still; you have to be able to configure yours firebox as a sound device; now we come to the details of where to start; so lets start with the System-> Preferences-> Sound and see what you have in the hardware tab; this will also need to be selected in the in and output also. If it has a driver loaded you should have this option, if so you need to enable it; if not we need to find and install the drivers for it; I have no idea what driver that is or where to get it; I did note that they do not support Linux for this device; so lets hope it follows some standard for a generic firewire device; do you have sound right now? My guess is not; meaning it is not configured.

Also check Known compatible and incompatible hardware

You need to take a look at you logs; /var/log/dmesg and /var/log/messages and see if there are any errors; post the errors concerning ALSA.

You might ask around for someone that has this working; that is your best bet.

A google search for "presonus firebox linux fedora" may help
http://www.nabble.com/freebob-and-fe...d18797884.html

Freebob
http://freebob.sourceforge.net/index...Working_Setups

The Ubuntu links may or may not help
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubu...tu-studio.html
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=213627
http://forums.presonus.com/archive/i...hp/t-1594.html

I don't know how much help this has been; not having a Firebox and just learning about them, I'm in the dark.
