Box hangs up running Fedora Core2 while compiling. Internal Compiler Error

Hi,
i just installed a workstaion version of Fedora Core 2.
While compiling several apps, my whole box hangs up
and gcc throws in an internal compiler error....

my hardware is an AMD Thunderbird 2000+

Are there some known bugs with a standard fedora core2 installation and the (redhat)gcc compiler...

i also tried gcc.3.4.2 the latest one but the same problem....

bye
marco

If you do sets of "make clean" and "make" on a typical application, do you get errors at the same places? If not, I suggest checking your memory with the memtest86 program.

I couldn't even finish typing this message and it segfaulted again. This computer lasted twice as long as the last one I threw in the trash 4 years ago. I have 1.6 Pentium 4. Memtest86+ shows nothing. Any idea which chip went bad? If you think it is the processor I might get another at bestbuy.I finished my holiday pulling the plug out of the back of my box for 4 days and nights everytime I compile anything. I can remember just two weeks ago when compiling Mozilla was like cutting cake, ie., everytime the compiler died I just typed make again and it got a little further.

I thought you said your hardware was an Athlon. Anyway, I wouldn't trash the computer till you tried it with another OS or, if it will run long enough, an update of Fedora Core via yum.

I bought the cheapest Gateway for $741 and dont know if the fans are working right. As for my old computer I looked at cpu temperature and it was ok, all fans were running, I used memtest on my rimm and it was ok, and I unplugged all my circuit boards and harddrives and still had the same problem. In the beginning WindowsXP was OK, but then it started randomly rebooting on a clicked webpage link and never recovered. I didn't have a compiler on the XP install so I couldn't check what it does when compiling. One time XP troubleshooter kicked in and said a graphics driver for a radeon in a laptop was causing it and after that message XP died. I am thinking about buying a new cpu. Anybody know how I can test my cpu in linux?
