xterm - terminal

Using the following command:

xterm -e tail -f stdout.log

i can see the log of an aplications and it's update in realtime. I want to uninstall the gnome and i'm looking for the echivalent command for the terminal.
I want on startup tty4 for example to show me the log.
Any ideas?

Hi just go to system>>preferences>>main menu then applications>system tools and check xterm then you have a menu entry to start xterm.
Also if you go to system>>preferences>>prefered applications and in the system tab change to standard x terminal instead of gnome terminal, hope that helps

I don't want to run gnome anymore i want to replicate this functionality in the terminal.
