Fedora 11 and ESXi vmware-tools (fails)

It could be due to several factors, though a search on Google suggests someone has got this to work.

I have a freshly installed, updated Fedora 11 installation for which the VMWare Tools fails. It can't compile what it needs, either. It's running under ESXi 3.x.

I figure someone else here may know how to get this working properly.

Thanks.

There is a lot of discussion of this on the web, plus patches that fix it. Unlike earlier for kernel versions, there seems to be no solution yet for current kernels that does not involve patching the kernel. I think most of what is on the web is based on the following site (check older posts on it too).

I found this project, Open VM Tools:

http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net/about.php

I can give this a try, too.
