Pinnacle Pro and no audio

I have seen several posts about this, but still haven't been able to get a fix for my system.

I have a Pinnacle Pro TV tuner card. When I boot, dmesg finds both the video and audio capture devices on the card. When I run some apps - like Xawtv - the video is great, but no audio. I know that the audio is being captured, but don't know how to have it routed to any sound mixer control (I have alsa and pulse, is there something else?).

People have said to connect the audio out of the capture card to the line in of the sound card. But, first, there is not a connector on the Pinnacle card for the audio out, and second, I would think there would be a way to internally route the captured audio to an audio input device.

Is there something I am missing?

FWIW: in Windows, Pinnacle's studio software recognizes both video and audio capture devices on the card, but they (Pinnacle) do not provide a real audio capture device driver, so no standard Windows app can access the captured audio.

TIA
