Xorg memory leak on F11

it seems if I leave my computer on for prolonged periods of time, Xorg eventually takes up all my ram, and I have 8gigs worth! I can solve it by logging out and logging in again. anyone know the cause of this?

Please post results of commands (as any normal user):
uname -r
glxingo|grep render

The first to tell us your kernel and OS architecture, the second to identify video driver and rendering method.

Probably the usual NVidia VRAM overflow bug: http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/FAQ
Quote:
NVIDIA

After a while, windows begin to go black

This is the infamous Black-Window Bug with the NVIDIA driver. It is caused by the graphics card running out of texture memory, and therefore all remaining windows (which are textures) will be black. If you have less than 128MB of video memory, disabling blur, and launching Compiz with --indirect-rendering will reduce the appearance of the bug.

The desktop is slow and unresponsive overall

You will need to launch Compiz with --loose-binding. This may break VSync and cause tearing.
Option '--loose-binding' worked for me. Same NVid chipset it seems:
Code:
~]$ glxinfo|grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 6150 LE/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
Apply it using fusion-icon.

Oh, I see. My bad, for some reason, I assumed you were.

OK, what version of the NVidia driver are you using, and where did you get it?
