Shutdown problem?

When I click shutdown button on my computer it just logs off. How can I configure so that when I click shutdown it shut-downs instead of just log off.

I am running F10 with XDM + LXDE.

I have a similar issue in gnome that may be related. Are you hitting shutdown while you have a root terminal open?

I have an older desktop and have added "acpi=force" to the kernel line to get it to shutdown properly. You restart after editing the " /boot/grub/grub.conf " kernel line for it to take effect.

acpi=force is used turn off the PC automatically after giving shutdown command, i mean after showing "System halted" message it will automatically turn off.

But this is not my problem. When I click shutdown button in GUI it again shows login screen. To shutdown the PC, every time I should go to shell and type shutdown command.

I have this problem also on mine (laptop Fujitsu 3910). When I do shutdown from system - shutdown I get the login screen, it does log out instead of shutdown. I have to click on shutdown again in the login screen in order to actually shutdown.
