can i pre-process my tv tuner sound??

i have a pinnacle hybrid pro 302e usb tuner. the sound is played with arecord accessing the device and aplay playing it. the video by tvtime.

the channel National Geographic comes at 719.25Mhz in my analog cable tv input. I AM GETTING HUGE amount of crackling and squealing noise from this channel. There are a few other channels like star movies at 83.50Mhz which has similar bad sound.

i know it might have to do with reception but can you suggest something i can do to pre process the sound before its played so as to reduce the artifacts (video is okay). I bought this thing to see NGC so please help.

I assume you've checked the reception on a standard tv to ensure the received audio is actually good?

Check the level of 'Capture' in 'alsamixer -c0' or System->Preferences->Advanced Sound Control.

Another thing to try is removing alsa-plugins-pulseaudio and see if it improves?

More likely you will have to experiment with the arecord parameters, there are loads of articles if you google eg http://carthick.wordpress.com/2007/1...using-arecord/
