System Specs

Just got 4 of these in today, thought I would share. They are kick ass!!!

IBM Intellistaion A Pro
AMD Opteron(tm) Processor
cpu MHz: 2193.767
cache size: 1024 KB
Memory: 1024
DVD/CDRW
Nvidia Quadro FX 1100

Running RH9 Enterprise Linux V3 for the AMD64 architecture

I gotta tell ya, I am seeing a major change in the industry. The days of paying $30k plus for SGI and SUN workstations are gone. These Linux boxes are so much cheaper and so mucch faster than their Big Brothers. And now that RH has stepped up into the 64bit market, look out SGI, SUN, HP. I have already replaced around 20 SGI visual workstations with RH boxes.
Only problem is most of the apps they (scientists) use are 32 bit. So it makes for a long day to install all the 32bit libraries they need as well as the 64bit ones.

I still have a SunBlade 100 on my desk, all it is doing really though is serving my home dir. And we still have over 250 UNIX machines/servers that I do not see going to Linux anytime soon. So my job "should be" secure for a few more years.
