F11 on Macbook- fn and brightness keys.

Macbook 3,1, Fedora 11 x86_64.

I followed the installation instructions at http://www.cenolan.com/2009/06/insta...-on-a-macbook/ and everything works except for the brightness keys. I tried the changes to grub.conf that were suggested there, and on logging in my screen went blurry to the point of being unusable. Changing grub.conf back to the defaults fixed this, but I still can't control the monitor brightness.

Also, the function keys default to mostly being media keys (like in OSX) but I would rather they be function keys and act as media keys with fn pressed down. In Fedora 10, running "echo 2 > /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode" switched this behavior, but now I get "bash: /sys/module/hid/parameters/pb_fnmode: No such file or directory" and fn mode stays the same.

Any tips?

OK, I figured out how to switch the function key behavior after a bit of wandering through the filesystem. It's the same trick from before, but it looks like something got renamed and moved.

Typing "echo 2 > /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/fnmode" without the quotes makes the function keys act appropriately (ie, actually be function keys by default).

Still have no idea on a workaround for the nonfunctional brightness keys. It looks like it's just a bug in this version of Fedora. Hopefully it'll get fixed in the next version, because looking around through the GNOME menus I don't even see a clumsy method of adjusting screen brightness.

there is laptop-brightness-applet or something like that in GNOME, however even that can't be used to change the brightness. If we can't do it by keys, can't we adjust it manually via the terminal?

Hi, have you tried the following method??

On the top panel, click on System-->Preferences-->Keyboard then a window pops up and you click on the second tab named Layouts. Under the keyboard model, choose from the available options. I've did that with success using my G4.
