Why can't I play Windows Media Live Streaming using Mplayer in Fedora 10

Can somebody/anybody please explain too me why this web site will not play in Firefox and Fedora Core 10:

http://www.3news.co.nz/tabid/921/Default.aspx

The Web Site is a "Windows Media" web streaming site and it will not play using MPlayer or any other media players I have on my system. Other Windows Media sites on on the internet play just fine.

I am using the latest version of Firefox in Fedora 10 to view the site:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042708 Fedora/3.0.10-1.fc10 Firefox/3.0.10

When I try to load the web site using:

1. Other media players on my system and the problem is the same.
2. Playing the Web Site on a windos XP system and it works just fine.

Any help I can get to fix this problem would be much appreciated.

Does not work for me either. I also tried it in vlc. That's a pretty good indication that it's not going to work on a linux machine. Some websites are just made for windows only. Sad but true.

Works fine here. At least: it seems to, as they all have funny accents.

Try installing all of the possible/necessary binary codecs and stuff: http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...l#mediaplayers

And see especially the section on binary codecs: http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...l#binarycodecs

P.S. Opera-9.64-gcc4-shared-qt3 on Fedora x86 (32-bit) using /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/xineplugin.so from xine-plugin RPM.

P.P.S. I STRONGLY suggest that you DO NOT install overlapping/duplicate web browser plug-ins for multimedia formats, as they may "fight" each other for control (and cause failure to play). Use the xine-plugin only.
