Question Mic fails in FC11, worked in FC10

Hello,

Recently, I upgraded my MSI MS-1221 notebook from FC10 to FC11. I got everything to work (kstartupconfig4 did not start because of absent versions of libcrypto.so.7 and libssl.so.7 - was installed 8).

But now, my mic does not work although it worked in FC10.

I tried to remove pulseaudio as recommended - no effect.

The mic is not working at all, not just too weak, but nothing...

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Again, I shall be very thankful for any hint where and/or how to debug the issue.

AdamW's suggested opening a terminal and running: alsamixer -c0 which should bring up all the controls. You can see if there's anything that's minimized or muted with the mike there.

Thank you, Bob!
It really helped in the sense that now I can hear and record.
Still, the quality of the sound is VERY poor (it worked perfect in FC10).
I played with alsamixer several days - the same issue all the time: or I hear a lot of noise when playing back recorded sound (even from external mic+phone set), or the sund is very very week. No acceptable combination of controls...:-(
How it all worked in FC10 without me touching a thing!?

Hey ho,

I use Gnome on a Del Ltitude D600 laptop. I had problems getting SKYPE to record.
First I stopped SKYPE from controlling sound settings which didn't do much.

I found I had to remove all PULSE AUDIO, then play around with the ALSA mixer using the GNOME Advanced sound control applet.

Selecting mic boost helped to get decent input.
Then I had to play with 3D conrol / PCM / Master volume levels.

I had problems with feedback during audio playback because the MIC doesn't mute automatically. Manually muting all audio input devices fixed that. I also have to be careful I don't place my hands to close to the speakers when recording or feedback may occur.

Now sound is good on everything (well as good as laptop speakers can be).

Cheers,
Bert

Re: Mic fails in FC11, worked in FC10

Dell Inspiron E1505
Sigmatel STAC9200
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Fedora11
Gnome 2.26.3
Sound is fine, except the microphone input is not recognized.
The only input recognized is my Vega USB 2.0 Web Camera.

created a modprobe.d/*.conf that consolidates all the sound:

Code:
# all sound settings should go here
alias char-major-116-* snd
alias sound-service-*-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-*-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-*-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-*-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-*-12 snd-pcm-oss

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

install sound-slot-* /sbin/modprobe snd-card-${MODPROBE_MODULE##sound[_-]slot[_-]}

install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 && /sbin/modprobe snd-emu10k1-synth

options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m25
but still no mic...please help!!!
