Video Card support

This is not really a problem, but didn't know where else to put it, so mods if this is the wrong place, I do apologise

Anyway, I am building a new pc and am looking to run Fedora 11 on it. I am looking for a descent, fairly inexpensive pcie video card that is supported out of the box. Open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance

well if you are going to run linux on it i would say your only real choice right now is a NVIDIA card of any type that is more recent then a geforce4. it isn't really supported great ootb (will run but not 3d) but nvidia's 3d binary non-free drivers (from rpmfusion) are really the only drivers doing a decent job until intel GEM settles down and ATI currently is a big mess. It doesn't do KMS/plymouth though since the driver you need is non free and nouveau (the "free" driver) is not mature ... yet.

so in short .... go with NVIDIA, even though it isn't an open source driver.

Hi.

I am posting from a laptop with a ATI Radeon HD3200 card. Even though the fglrx driver is not available yet, the thing works very well out of the box (video playback is really smooth), Desktop effects aren't available yet. All that with only 256MB dedicated memory (surely available models for desktop machines have more, and they shouldn't be expensive).

Thanks.
Joe.
