I'd like to point out that this problem isn't unique to Fedora. Found this Googling:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...iz/+bug/353126

Hope someone can glean some info from this to find a fix. I have the same problem as the original poster. Vnc fails to update on the client, even tho' the mouse and keyboard events show up on the host's monitor. Disabling compiz allows it to work. Bug manifested itself after last upgrade.

This is apparently a problem with the xdamage feature of vino when used with compiz. Disabling it solves the problem but supposedly increases the CPU load and bandwidth usage, although I've not noticed much difference myself.

To sort it, go into gconf-editor -> desktop -> gnome -> remote access and tick disable_xdamage.

You don't need to add the vnc module section to xorg.conf for this, if you've already added it you may need to remove it again for this to work as that uses tigervnc server rather than vino.

Working for me

I have this working on two systems. One is Fedora 11 x86_64 on a quad Intel CPU system with a NVIDA card. I installed the NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA. Then I edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to load the module and use the options in the Screen section, and set the vnc password as root with vncpasswd. It seems to be working fine for me. The second machine is a VM running the 32-bit version of Fedora 11. After installing the vmware tools there was no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, so I basically copied what was on my other machine, other than the Device section specifying the nvidia driver, and it is working there also. Perhaps there was a fix between the last post on this thread and now...

The problem still exists for me. However, the work-around of disabling xdamage seems to have fixed it. Still, I'd like VNC to be rendering faster than this.
