Can't get wireless usb atheros card (ar5523) with ndiswrapper to work. Please help

I am struggling to get my wireless card (USB Atheros AR5523) to connect to my wlan.

I have already installed ndiswrapper along with the windows drivers (athfmwdl.inf and net5523.inf).

I then use modprobe ndiswrapper and plug in my dongle. It successfully picks up my dongle and shows my wlan in the network manager, but the problem is when I click on the essid to connect to it shows connecting for a minute or so and then it does nothing.

The power led on the dongle also keeps flashing and I know it is not supposed to do that because in windows it stays on even when not connected to a network.

Another interesting thing is if I try to modprobe -r ndiswrapper and then modprobe ndiswrapper then my laptop freezes and I have to hard reset it.

I used the same procedure as mentioned above on an older ubuntu installation and it always worked.

Please kindly assist me.
