PIDGIN suddenly quit working with Yahoo IM

I have been using PIDGIN with yahoo IM for many months and loved it.
But suddenly today it refused to connect.

I suspected a yahoo problem, so I rebooted my machine under WinXP and ran Yahoo's IM program, and everything was fine.

So I rebooted under Fedora 10, and tried Pidgen again.
No error message, it just constantly says "connecting" along with the connecting ICON in the upper right, rather than the normal one.

Anybody else have this problem?
Any ideas?

I'm running Fedora 10, Pidgin 2.5.4-1.fc10
Debug window says

I've got the same problem

This started to happen on my home ISP the evening of June 20, but was working fine during the day on my work's ISP. Currently, it is not working this evening (June 21).

Also, I know that pidgin on the Windoze is also having the same problem so I probably isn't a recent Fedora update that caused this.

Have you tried changing your Yahoo server? Mine is set to japan and won't logon in F11 but Gyachi will.

Same thing going on with me. Just ran some massive updates and the results are the same as others are experiencing.

I am running Fedora 11 64 bit, GNOME desktop and whatever the latest version of pidgin is that is in the repository. (2.5.6 I believe) When running pidgin from the command line with the "-d" option, I saw this:

Code:
(21:39:34) dns: Got response for 'scs.msg.yahoo.com'
(21:39:34) dnsquery: IP resolved for scs.msg.yahoo.com
(21:39:34) proxy: Attempting connection to 68.180.217.12
(21:39:34) proxy: Connecting to scs.msg.yahoo.com:5050 with no proxy
(21:39:34) proxy: Connection in progress
(21:39:35) proxy: Connecting to scs.msg.yahoo.com:5050.
(21:39:36) yahoo: 108 bytes to read, rxlen is 128
(21:39:36) yahoo: Yahoo Service: 0x57 Status: 1
(21:39:36) yahoo: yahoo status: 99

Interesting background information. It is Yahoo causing the problem. Hopefully there will be an update from Pidgin to reflect the changes that Yahoo is making.

Had the same issue and I opted for Kopete. Unfortunately again Kopete broke yesterday, so right now I wend the "geeky" way - BitlBee with Weechat as front-end. Its not aesthetically appealing as its a console-based chat system but at least it works :-)

I've been having the same problem with Pidgin. Damnably irritating what!

However I've found that Gyach-E is still working.

This explains a lot. Gyach-E does connect, however if you try and send instant messenges, the recipients will never receive them. Simple test: start Gyach-E twice, logging into two different Yahoo accounts. If you try and message the one from the other, messages will never get sent. However you can still receive messages, and the other person will see you are typing.

Maybe your Gyach-E is connecting to one of the servers that hasnt been upgraded. Which one are you connecting to?

Well Yahoos windows software still works.
And you can now access yahoo IM through Yahoo mail.

My guess is that yahoo is intentionally blocking other programs
because of the increasing amount of IM Spam these days.

But my older Yahoo windows program still works fine, so it's been planned in.

Connecting to one of the alternate servers (from the link posted above) allows me to connect with all the programs that didn't work before. Why would yahoo block third party messenger programs to combat spam? AIM doesn't do that and I never get AIM spam. They would be alienating a somewhaþ large group of people who use all-in-one messenger programs.
