Had to turn off network manager with static IP

Just to let others know: once I switched from dhcp to a static IP address setup, DNS response times took 30+ seconds. The culprit turned out to be the network manager. Once I disabled it and used the regular network service, things got set up right (after some fiddling and a couple of reboots).

PS: after I edited my search domain name to get things working under network-service, upon rebooting the name was reverting back to what it was before. It turned out that the admin GUI tool was updating resolv.conf, but not /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, and I suppose the ifcfg-eth0 was being used to reset the resolv.conf file during reboot. I don't know whether this is a bug or I was using the wrong GUI tool. In any case, I edited ifcfg-eth0 by hand and that took care of the problem.
