Question Bluetooth headset profiles...

I read an article (here) describing how ridiculously easy it was (comparative to F9 and F10) to configure a bluetooth headset in gnome in Fedora 11 Preview...

I ran the preview and am NOW running the final release of Fedora 11 and I do note that pairing a bluetooth headset and setting it as the default sound output is truly simple to do!

Bravo Developers!

While it IS easy to configure a bluetooth headset... configuring it to use the a2dp profile is not quite as straightforward apparently... I can't figure it out.

The article noted above indicates that there was some "drop box" somewhere to use to select the appropriate headset profile, but I just can't seem to find it. I have paired my Insignia headphones (best buy house brand) multiple times paying close attention to all options given, I have looked through the bluetooth applet options and properties dialogues, and I have also searched through the Pulse audio and "advanced audio" applets trying to find any reference to "profile", "hsp", "a2dp", and anything else that resembles bluetooth headset options... nothing...

was the original article simply wrong? or is there some additional package i need to install for this to work?

Thumbs down

I figured it out.

and with MUCH frusteration and wrath I point out:

devs: seriously? I understand the desire to streamline the volume controls a bit... but in so doing you REMOVED access to this VERY MUCH NEEDED COMPONENT!!!

you can ONLY change the bluetooth profile in the pavucontrol utility. you will have to install it as it is not default...

rediculous.

suggestion to devs, I HIGHLY recommend you add this functionality to the "new" (worthless) volume control applet... useless...

Thumbs up Thanks Iconyx

... your post saved me a whole lot of pain trying to activate the a2dp profile for my bt headphones. And yes, it does seem as though an oversight was made in how to enable this profile from default install.

Thanks again.

Thanks a bunch for this helpful post. I'm loving my new bluetooth headphones now that I have A2DP going.

Install the pavucontrol utility and use that to select A2DP mode for your headset.

Just want to add my thanks also. I did a search and found this thread. Now my Motorola S9HD bluetooth stereo headset connects. That bit about a2dp and where to enable it did the trick. I would never have found it. I am new to Fedora and don't know if there is a how-to anywhere but this should definitely be in it.
