Where can I get the 2.6.30 Kernel?
Hi everyone,
Can anybody tell me if the Fedora 11 official release is going to include the 2.6.30 kernel? If not,can anybody point to where I can get it as an R.P.M?(the kernel, the kernel-source,the kernel-firmware and perhaps the kernel-headers as well?).
The reason I'm asking is that I'm stuck compiling the D.R.M,Mesa,and Nouveau Drivers from git.I'm still getting that error from D.R.M!(the version is 0.14 now).I've tried to re-install the libdrm package using yum,but I'm stuck with the 403 forbidden error as everybody else.
I hope somebody can help me with this one.
Regards,

Hi Iron Mike,
Thanks for the reply,I've had a look at the link and it seems Fedora 11 is stopping at 2.6.29.I didn't want to try out Rawhide for Fedora 12 that early, but it looks like I'll be foreced to.I hope it's going to be stable enough to use....(I know wishful thinking lol!)

the 2.6.30 kernel should be finalised sunday i thought atleast from what Linus said in his Release Candidate 8. so i would probably expect a F11 2.6.30 kernel sometime late in the week?

The 2.6.30 has not been used anywhere except in koji.
It is still buggy and should not be used in F11 until .1 fixes, maybe in koji until July.
Rawhide F12 will most likely go on to 2.6.31.
It will take most users a week to get the F11 iso, install, update and check out what is all ready there. And there are some problems. Even with the zero-day + updates.
If you like that edge just install F12,
SJ

something i think i will do, i a bit dissapointed with F11. i think you'll find there testing kernel 2.6.30 in f12 so they can release it for f11. supposedly it has a "fastboot" added to it . dont know if the 2.6.29 kernel had that

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info.I don't fancy waiting until July for the 2.6.30 kernel, unless if the official release of Fedora 11 includes the libdrm package that has been updated to to at least 0.14.
If it hasn't,I'll have to start using Fedora 12 straight off.... I have been using Fedora 11 as Rawhide since February this year.To get Fedora 12,would I just have to wait for a couple of days for the switch over,or would I have to edit my .repo files in my /etc/yum.repos.d folder?Or if someone has the .repo files for Fedora 12,would they be able to attach them to this thread?or they do have permission to p.m me.

to get Fedora12 you can always use the boot.iso image in Development directory after 11 has been released
or just use PreUpgrade to go to F12 rawhide
or leave your rawhide repo permanely enabled which will update to f12 packages

Hi demz,
Thanks for the info.I'll wait until Tuesday then,I hope I'll be able to a "upgrade" install instead of doing an entire clean one.If that isn't possible,I have copied the stuff I need to my Windows 7 R.C partition of my hardrive. So I should be ready to go when the time arrives.

# Fully updated F11. (F10 does not resolve and if you rpm -e the wrong thing, yum and rpm will not work.)
The F12 boot.iso did not work for me. The anaconda needs work.
I am doing an install of F11 with the F11-RC4 iso next. (Because my F10 is broke. I was one pacakage away from a go, but nss stopped yum. It was mainly about python-2.5 to 2.6. A big hurdle.)
If that works then it will be a yum update like the other F11, updating yum, rpm, and a few other packages before the big yum.
The rawhide repos should be good by tomorrow afternoon PST.
Otherwise
# yum update --enablerepo=rawhide --disablerepo=fedora --disablerepo=updates
The other repos s/b off by default - edit the /etc/yum.repos.d/xxx.repo and set the enabled=0
or just wait a few days to get a new anaconda on boot.iso to install.
It is not straight forward but can be done with a little logical thinking.
No refunds.

hmmm, I didn't know the sewage came in raw form.
I have RC4 upgrading the F10 now. Half done already.
Way easier with a DVD upgrade.
