encryption software

Ok, figured I could get some good suggestions.

I'm looking for encryption software..
I want to, preferably, mount an encrypted volume (so it encrypts files on-the-fly)..
Nothing overly fancy (no big secrets) just general encryption of files I dont want to be public if someone steals the backup CD of my project files.
I have expiremented with BestCrypt, and it does pretty much exactly what I want, BUT I dont want to spend $90 for just the small amount of security I am after..
I used to run a version of PGP (6 I think it was) on windows and it did exactly what I was after.

Using BestCrypt, basically, I have a 'volume file' (the encrypted 'disk') of about 2G (to copy off to DVD backup).. And I mount the volume file and access it with any software just like any other part of the system.. When I am done, I unmount the volume, and copy the .jbc file to the DVD..

Has anyone found anything like this that is GPL or shareware.. Like I said, if I was into industrial secrets, I'd pay $80.. but its just lil-ol me and my financial/source code/etc/etc files..

What would REALLY be nice is if there was one compatible with PocketPC! (Sentry 2000 for Windows has a PPC version that reads the same volume files, but I cant find anything from them for Linux)..

Thanks

Perfect! Thats exactly what I'm after! Thanks!

I'll program up a couple quick scripts to automate some of it and its perfect.

Thanks again
