Intel Pro 2200BG stopped working

I was trying to update the drivers for my wireless card and it no longer works. I have a cisco pcmcia card that I got working to use as a backup, but I would prefer to use my internal card. The card is the Intel Pro 2200BG. Please let me know what information is needed to diagnose and correct this issue. I am relatively new to Linux (Currently using F10) and trying to learn. Thanks

This is the iwconfig from my cisco card. The Intel card was working fine yesterday. but now doesn;t even show up.

Did you try uninstalling Kismet?

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to check up on this. I'm not sure how to just uninstall other than deleting any files kismet installed manually. Is there another way to uninstall? This is my first attempt at Linux (Fedora 10). I am very happy so far, I never realized how difficult it could be when you are so used to windows. Linux is clearly superior to MS, I just need to learn all of the basic commands. Thanks for responding.

if this helps:
[root@garfield tr]# whereis kismet
kismet: /usr/bin/kismet /etc/kismet /usr/local/bin/kismet /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf~ /usr/share/kismet /usr/share/man/man1/kismet.1.gz

Try this:
Open a terminal window and type:

su -

Type in the root password, then type:

rpm -e --nodeps kismet

This will remove kismet with removing any dependencies that are linked to it.

I uninstalled kismet, but adapter still not working. When I tried to install the driver from intel, It said I needed to install the latest ieee80211. I tried to do that and here is the result below (a lot of errors):

F10 came with full support for the ipw2200 series of cards. There was no need to install or try to install the version from IBM. Hopefully just the firmware was deleted. Open a terminal window and change to root and type:

yum install ipw2200-firmware

Then reboot the computer and see if it fixes it.

the adapter works fine in windows, so it isn't a hardware problem

In all honesty how much time do you have invested in F10? Maybe the simpliest way would be to reinstall F10 and start from scratch.

A reinstall isn't a bad idea aqt this point, but you may instead want to boot your older kernel, remove and then re-install the newer one with yum

You don't need anything but the wifi package ipw2200-firmware.noarch to make your wifi part work.
Building your own can cause all sorts of package/kernel revision mismatch. Do so when needed, but you don't need it.

I would also comment that this ...
rpm -e --nodeps kismet
is not a good practice and can lead to all sorts of headaches ... It says delete the package and ignore other dependent packages ... to the dependencies are all broken. ONly do that if you intend to re-install the package shortly.

BTW the packages you may have messed up are in
/lib/modules/*/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko
/lib/modules/*/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko
/lib/modules/*/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_ccmp.ko
/lib/modules/*/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_tkip.ko
/lib/modules/*/kernel/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt_wep.ko

which are part of the 'kernel' package.

After I boot into the older kernel, how do I remove the new one. I know I can select the kernel version in the bootloader, but not sure how to remove the new one. Or do I just boot into the old one and yum update and it will remove the new one automatically. Thanks.

Install yumex, it is a GUI interface for yum. Once installed click on the "installed" tab, scroll down to kernel and select the kernel and click process queue, it'll take care of the rest.
