My son has a lightsnake and is trying to make it work with Audacity since December and has had know luck. He is now running F11 beta x86_64. Has read thru the manual many times tried various different setting and still know success. Could anyone out there please give us some detailed suggestions on how to make this work.
Thank you

Assuming it's supported:
within Audaocity:
-->Edit
------>Preferences
--------Choose Audio I/O. You can change the recording device on your right, default is /dev/dsp.
OR:
At the terminal; pavucontrol, select the input tab and set your device.

yes, we have selected dev/usb in the drop down. If he clicks record an error pops up, If he changes it to mono you can hit record with out the error but it doesn't record anything either. There is a ticker of how much time has recorded but dead air according to package it is Linux compatible.
Thank you

hmmm. I don't have a lightsnake but it looks like another usb audio device. Step back for a moment and check the volume levels on your guitar, next assumption is that it's an electric guitar or is it an acoustic with mic? No batteries, yeah I know but I had to ask, and does your cord work in an external amp (ends soldered to 1/4" jack maybe fraid/cold solder/or broken). Or is this a midi lightsnake?
At the terminal:
Does is show your lightsnake?
Does it show usb_audio??
goto your input devices & strum your coards. Does it peak? Or does it display only one input device?

Hmm here's what I think.
Although Bus 003 Device 008: ID 1940:ac01 has no description, usb_audio clearly is loaded and the fact that the mono bar peaks on note stike confirms that sound is getting into your system but not over to audacity. I like the error, you had to switch to mono, because your device is mono so it should have errorred on stereo. Have you tried audacity-freeworld (yum install audacity-freeworld)? It shouldn't make a difference but considering F11 is prerelease, then "I'd rather be lucky than good anyday."
I think you'll return to F10. But try musix and/or ubuntu studio if you have the bandwidth. http://www.musix.org.ar/en/index.html, http://ubuntustudio.org/. They're both live DVDs so you it'd demonstrate the "prerelease" arguement while introducing you to other applications without blowing anything away. Personally, I prefer musix and it worked with my UA-25X without problems.
Late Edit: I'm running F10 x86_64 with ua-25x.

Beaker, I want to thank you. removing Audacity and installing Audacity-freeworld seemed to have corrected the issue. He couldn't get audacity working with f10 or 11 beta till Audacity-freeworld was installed. He has been recording and over dubbing all day.
Again, thank you

Glad you got it working. If you wanted to take it further, search for Sideway's thread on Rosegarden. Great walk through on jack and rosegarden. I suggest this because if lightsnakes are cheap and good enough quality then you can virtualize a sound card and get a little studio rolling.

okay. so now when i open audacity and i hit the record button it crashes on me. sometimes it will record for like 2 or 3 seconds but then stop.
i can play previously made tracks but i cant edit them, and i cant record anything new to play back even whe it does record for a few seconds.
any suggestions on how to fix this?
