Samba network share

I'm having a problem sharing a folder on my Fedora PC using Samba.

I would like to setup a network shared directory on my home network. All the other machines are Microsoft based, my PC is running Fedora Core 2. I followed another threads instructions in how to setup Samba and a network share. It all went smoothly and the folders are visible on the network.

The error message I get from all the Windoze machines when I try and open the folder is as follows:

\\Crow\public is not accesible
The network name cannot be found.

I'm sure it's a simple solution, I just can't see it! Any help out there?

i am the same as you. i belive its down to config in samba for the ip add to allow. could also be your firewall? have you one configured?

I do have a firewall running, i have Firestarter installed. I am a bit of a newbie, so please bear with me! Do I need to allow a range of IP addresses or something? When I configured Firestarter I allowed public access to the Samab Services...

I just got done setting up a whole samba network and had encountered that problem to.

make sure that you created a user account for linux first then add that user to samba.
the user will require 2 passwords one for linux and one for samba, i made them different so they cant logon to the server.

add the users to groups on linux, and make sure the folder permisions allow them the access you wish them to have.

I had created 3 groups
Billing
FileServer
TimeSlips.

Then i added all users to Fileserver
and the few to billing and timeslips, this allows the users to enter the folders based off linux permmisions instead of Samba.

Hope this gives you a good start to at least getting connected.
