presto advertisement after install?

I just upgraded my F11 pc and noticed that preso is advertising itself

Code:
Size of all updates downloaded from Presto-enabled repositories: 2.8M
Size of updates that would have been downloaded if Presto wasn't enabled: 15M
This is a savings of 82 percent
is that going to be the default from now on? .... seems like a bit too much for my taste .... maybe a brief oneliner would be more tasteful: 2.8/15/82%

Hi,

yum-presto is not installed by default but if you do install it, you would get that message. Users seem to like that. If you have a suggestion for a better wording, feel free to file a RFE in http://bugzilla.redhat.com

Wait for the extended version
Code:
Size of all updates downloaded from Presto-enabled repositories: 2.8M
Size of updates that would have been downloaded if Presto wasn't enabled: 15M
This is a savings of 82 percent
But this saving is nothing compared to the great offers of Qieckie-Mart
Go to www.qieckie-mart.shop and be surpised by their offers!

well maybe i will, although it might not be that important to file a bug report for i just noticed it because it takes up quite some space on my 1024x768 test pc.

I though presto/delta-rpm's were going to be default for F11 and from there on? or at least that is what i read here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Presto

or wasn't it mature enough as a default for F11? I didnt hear of any regressions....

Hi,

Read the feature page carefully esp the release notes. It does indicate that it won't be a default feature

I don't mean to be rude, but I think it is very amusing to see how suspicious people are of presto. I've been using it since F8 (because I had to), and it has been great. In fact, yum gave me more hassles before I switched over to presto, but that could also be because of improvements made to yum itself.

The info that presto shows could probably be reduced to something like "Presto (82%)" once people get over their "fear". Hopefully it becomes the norm someday, then presto will not have to display anything at all.

Presto reduced the update size to 2.8MB from 15 MB which is a 82% saving.
How about that? Any other suggestions? To be honest, I don't remember my bugzilla account name and don't want to create another one. So who wants to report the RFE?

okay, here's the releases notes:

Release Notes

Normally when you update a package in Fedora, you download an entire replacement package. Most of the time (especially for the larger packages), most of the actual data in the updated package is the same as the original package, but you still end up downloading the full package. Presto allows you to download the difference (called the delta) between the package you have installed and the one you want to update to. This can reduce the download size of updates by 60% - 80%.
did i miss it there? maybe have to read between the lines.

I hardly think this is a big deal, more useful would be to change the default yum installer to say:

Quote:
you just downloaded 10gazillion mb of updates, if you had installed yum-presto you would not be hogging the friggin bandwidth of our mirrors so much, noob.

Now that is what I call user friendly!

"n00b" is the way to go not "noob", my friend. This knowledge differentiates the real expert, from a nobody.... If you want to be such a recognised expert in the Linux community, as I am, you have a long way to go

"noob" is a gentle but friendly slur, n00b is quite offensive and provocative

You just have to read the last line which you had left out.

"To make use of this feature you must install the yum-presto plugin: yum install yum-presto"

I have made it more explicit now for your sake.
