How to change the GDM background image the simple and clean way

This thread has been changed because I felt it wasn't helpful enough and the original information was deleted.

To change the GDM image all you really have to do is right click on the desktop and hit "Change Desktop Background" and select the picture you want and then hit the "Make Default" button and both will change naturally. (The lock screen and GDM Login background)

Then just switch it back to your usual desktop wallpaper and go on about your day.

you can create a gdm login, then login as user gdm and change the background and fonts the usual way

Code:
su
chsh -s /bin/bash gdm
passwd gdm
gdm's home dir is /var/lib/gdm

Thank you for your contribution to the topic sideways. It's too late for me however as you see. I asked this question in the software forum and nobody responded. So I came up with my own solution and wrote this tutorial.

Unhappy Re: How to change the GDM and lock screen image in Fedora 10... the dirty and messy w

And this fix no longer works in Fedora 14. There's no "make default" button to click.

It doesn't help at all that gdm has no man page. There isn't even a stupid Info file...

duuhhaa this was changed way back ( fedora 11 or 12 i think ) .You might want to read past release notes

fedora is a very fast R&D distro - things can and DO change VERY greatly from one version to the next
