I was wondering if anyone can help me I have installed Fedora 10 on my Sony Vaio VGN A517M laptop but the speed is unbearably slow, it takes a long time to boot and to do simple tasks like click on the menu I have to wait at least 5 minutes for any menu options to appear and then longer again to access the sub menus or to open any application, if I can get any open.
I installed Fedora on a partition of 17Gb and made a swap partition of 2Gb, the memory of my laptop is 1Gb. I have no idea why it runs so slow. I wanted to install Fedora in order to run NS2. At present I can't even use the operating system as it takes so long to compute any basic command. This is the first time I have installed Linux. Any advice would be very much appreciated as I have no idea how to fix this problem and really need to get Linux running so I can use NS2.
