Not even getting off the starting line

Hi, I've been running Mint exclusively for a year now, until I got the Fedora 8 based Linpus on my netbook. I wanted to try 10 on my desktop so downloaded and burned the iso, then rebooted. I get the initial splash screen before the live bootup and the blue and white progress bar along the bottom of the screen, but then nothing other than a black screen and my mouse cursor, which I can move but that's it. After a few minutes, the disk spins down then it just sits there.

I have an Athlon 64 3200+ processor and 2.5Gb ram, and my graphics card is an Nvidia Geoforce 9500GT Super.

Can anyone advise please?

when the system has finished booting, press alt+ctrl+f2. you should get to text mode. there you can check /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any error messages

e great.

Unfortunately it never seems to get that far. I get a black screen with a white rectangle in the centre, with the mouse cursor showing and moveable, and that's it, after that it just sits there. Alt Ctrl F2 does nothing, and no other key or combination does anything either, and as there's no reset button, I have to pull the power cord to reset. I used Unetbootin to create a thumb drive of the ISO but with the same result.

I also used the same thumb drive to install on my Acer Aspire One, which went just fine (although that's thrown up its own problems, but I'll deal with those later). From this though, I'm wondering if there's some kind of incompatibility between Fedora and my hardware configuration. As it would be nice to have the same OS on both machines though, I'll keep trying, so any other suggestions would b
