Snapshot release - Jesse Keating

This is the first and final snapshot before our final devel freeze
(April 14th) and subsequent preview release. On the torrent sites
you'll find live images for testing. http://torrent.fedoraproject.org
and http://spins.fedoraproject.org

Lots of work has gone into the storage code of Anaconda since the Beta
release, please do re-test with these images if you had difficulty
installing the Beta.

Please use bugzilla (
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_file_a_bug_report ) to report any
problems you find (after making sure that somebody else hasn't already
reported the issues). The Beta release notes
( https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedor..._release_notes ) still
mostly apply.

i was just about to post this

, if this is the first an final snapshot why do they bother with snapshots in the first place . focus should be on fixing bugs not putting out snapshots

Hi,

The only way to verify that bugs has been fixed is by getting wider exposure. Putting up snapshots to verify that the bugs have been fixed and that new bugs haven't been there is part of the testing process and the only realistic way to get testing on Anaconda changes is via new releases.

Hmm, some non-live images would be nice, so people could test the whole installation ie DVD.

Edit: Damn that torrent is the fastest i've had yet :o -- Pulling down at 1.20MB/s (12Meg)

Hi,

Regular DVD images take much longer time however and we would probably have that for the preview release coming next.

I bet the fonts on the gdm login screen on netbooks are still too big.

I'm not gonna post a bugzillla, because it's already been posted, and it's getting tiresome. I guess the gdm issues are out of your hands. Everyone can try my hack instead

i downloaded the snapshot preview, booted fine for me, much better than the beta did.

PS. jake i can download at better speeds through bittorrent than a direct download. i can download from a torrent i get around 1.5MB/s speeds where as a Direct download , downloading a LiveCD i only get around 280kb which is crap

i get 640 kb with live cd
haven't try bittorent i'll try it this afternoon

for fedora 11 what is the best bittorent's client ??

if you use KDE, Qbittorrent or Ktorrent but Gnome comes with Transmission

Unfortunately, I won't be of any help with this snapshot. I downloaded the 32 bit i686 Desktop Live iso. I didn't get by the custom partitioning. It will "only" allow me to do an ext4 install. ?????? Then, of course, when I attempt that I get the ext3 boot partition problem and I'm not changing all sorts of stuff around for an OS test install.

The exact error message I get when I try to format my / partition to ext3 is:

Your / partition does not match the live image you are installing from.
It must be formatted as ext4.

I raised a bug in the bugzilla about my anaconda problems and never got any response - raising a bug was a waste of time for me. Not wanting to be defeated, on four seperate occasions I downloaded a new build of boot.iso following my observations that anaconda has been updated. On each of these four occasions it failed again.

You guys went to beta knowing you had many users suffering a critical flaw.

It's good that you've now released another snapshot, but when people come along from the community and try to contribute their time with testing your builds it seems that its pot luck if you'll actually get any developer attention at all on what are critical bugs trying to be reported.
