update blues - vmplayer

Last night I got the customary notice (that little icon that pops up) of up bugfixes etc available for download/install from the repo. Had a quick look at the list and hit "Apply".
"Download successful" appeared, I shut down the computer and went to bed. Booted up this morning and not only no wine (see separate thread) but also no vmplayer.

Fedora 10
Kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686
Gnome 2.24.3
Memory: 1.19GiB
AMD Athlon XP 2800+

Here's what I've got::

The vmplayer window opens and an error message opens

Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.
Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.

Hit OK and another error message appears:
Failed to initialize monitor device.

Hit OK and another error message appears:
Error while powering on: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to.

Hit OK and another error message appears:
Failed to reply to the dialog: Internal error

And that's it

Where to from here? Help would be appreciated.
