Is test day over? I signed out of IRC...
Bout 3 hours later got woken up because I was asleep at my computer (You know those jokes of ppl asleep on the keyboard? yeah that's me btw)
then decided to go to bed
Note to self: Stop staying up for 24 hours at a go.
But I'm only up because "Meow meow meow" hungry cats xD.
Howd it go guys? liveCD only worked on 1 computer for me lol.

Hey I am away from my Fedora machine so can't submit the smolt profile and such, but I tried the LiveCD out on my laptop with a GeForce 6150. The GUI loaded perfectly and so did viewing a movie with Totem. Crtl-Alt-Backspace didn't have any affect and I don't know how else to restart the X server, so I didn't test that.
It is looking good .

The nouveau driver with xvideo acceleration looks great, will satisfy many. No 3D though, so no compiz will put many off.
Kernel Mode Setting is nice and seems to work, but it's not a huge improvement over enabling a vesa framebuffer for the boot screen.
The glxgears performance bob, myself and others saw is down to software rendering on fast cpus, the framerates are a giveaway, increase the size of the window and watch the cpu max out while the framerates drop.
Still, xvideo acceleration is all many want for stuff like movies and old-school emulators (snes, gens, mame etc).
Personally, I'll still install the nvidia driver I think, but the progress is very promising

BTW, I did try to install a 3D game (Alien-something) from the repositories while in Live CD mode and did get half-way decent action in demo mode. That's the first time I've seen full-screen action without nvidia drivers. Up to now, anything else resulted in stalling to a freeze on my system. Nice work! And, like Demz, I'm not interested in Compiz, so no loss to me there.

Hi,
Note that while the current driver can do acceleration, it is probably not very optimized for it, yet. The important thing is not to regress in anything the nv driver was already capable of. Nouveau is the future. Fedora simply is getting it first.

KMS does not work for Geforce 7 series as expected (my PC hardware uses what is perhaps the last Nvidia high end AGP video card).

Sadly that's the expected result with anything below the 8 series:

Unfortunately, the kms support for nouveau that'll be in F11 only covers GeForce 8 and higher chipsets.
So, what you're seeing is expected.

But at least nvidia will continue to provide a great proprietary driver for the forseeable future

F11 rawhide on Pent III 800 intel bgf865
nouveau 19 and 20 with kernel-PAE--2.6.29.21 x686 does not work on mx NV11 w/wo init3 gdm
Hangs on black screen out of plymouth or gdm.
.
Kernel-2.6.29.16 can use 19 in init 3 gdm but reboot hangs on colored characters with character backgrounds.
Oddly enough, kernel-2.6.29.21 with NV, shows very little slow down over nouvea 18, 19

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback and testing. Jake, the parameters of the test day are fairly flexible by their nature, and by the nature of timezones ('Thursday' in Australia is rather different from 'Thursday' in Europe, for e.g. :>). It's more or less going on as long as anyone who's interesting is signed in to IRC. I logged off about four in the afternoon PST on the test day, IIRC. I think Ben was online a while beyond that.
Follow up event coming Wednesday: the Radeon test day! For those of you on the other side of the graphics card fence . I'll post a separate thread about that soon.

I have 2 8600GT's in SLI mode.. Which would fail most likely.
I can't even install alpha without recieving x-startup-failed.

Right, or the live CD linked on the Test Day page. A lot of improvements have been made to the driver recently.
