Fedora 11 NVIDIA / nouveau test day on Thursday
It's nearly time for the big one!
Thursday is the NVIDIA / nouveau Test Day for Fedora 11. The nouveau driver is replacing the older nv driver for NVIDIA cards in Fedora 11, and we need widespread testing to make sure it works properly on as many cards as possible. We're doing everything we can to make this test day really easy to join in: a live CD with the latest nouveau code will be available for both i586 and x86-64 architectures, and there's a simple set of just three (plus one optional) test cases to run. All you need is a computer with an NVIDIA graphics card.
So, if you have an NVIDIA card and half an hour to spare, please visit the wiki page, download the live CD (when it's available, it's not up quite yet), run through the test cases and report your results. If you're free on Thursday, join #fedora-qa on IRC to discuss your testing in real time with other testers, the nouveau maintainer Ben Skeggs, and the Fedora QA team, who'll be on hand to help with any problems. See this page if you don't know how to use IRC. We really need as much testing as possible on this one! Even if you use another distribution (hi, Mandriva readers!) you can use the live CD to test, and the results will ultimately benefit your distribution too, because all distributions are likely to switch to the nouveau driver in the future, and all Fedora's work on the driver is of course contributed upstream (in fact, Ben is one of the leading upstream developers of nouveau). Thanks a lot, everyone.
For the forums - if you'd like to discuss anything about the nouveau driver that comes up as a result of this test, please do post in the "Alpha, Beta & Snapshots Discussions" forum - I'll be looking out for posts there.

That's looks easy enough, I've got an 8600M GT which I fully expect to fail the basic test, but I'll try it out and post results as instructed, maybe I'll be surprised.

I think I'll be able to help with this. I've actually been running nouveau and rawhide on my laptop for some time without issue, but I'd like to do the tests proper with the live CD. Also, dualhead hasn't worked properly the last couple times I've tried (well, never without the proprietary driver), so I may have some info for you (I was going to file a bug after a fresh install of Beta if it still wasn't working).
Anyway, I work 'til ~5:00PM CDT on Thursday, so I'll probably sign onto IRC towards the end of the test period (like, the last half hour). Since I don't do much 3D, I'd say dualhead is the one thing I'm missing from the binary blob. Otherwise, nouveau has been awesome. So yeah, see y'all there!

I'm on board testing this but the download link is not working and I see no indication that other versions are available. I did find an older Live CD but I think it might not be applicable for this testing activity.
Does anyone have a torrent or some such?

Adam's mentioned that it's not available just yet in his initial post. I'll wait until tomorrow morning and give the download another try.

That's what I get for skimming...
I saw the page and that four people had reported their test results, so in my haste I presumed, incorrectly, that the testing had started.

AdamW (or anyone)
Is this driver supposed to work for the NVIDIA GeForce 9500M, which Dell calls GeForce NB9M-GE - 256MB? This is some sort of dual graphics card. I can't get any brand 64bit LINUX to boot up on my new XPS 1340 64bit system. I don't really want to send it back to Dell. Thanks

Nvidia official drivers should work on that card (Hence, why there official, they actually work).
Install your favourite linux distro in text mode (linux text) on command line, it should drop back to it anyway, then install the official nvidia drivers.
As for if nouveau will work, probably not, until you go and help with test days Help with test day, they may get it working. I know I might have to get a couple of cards working (1 of which had to do a text install)

Hi Jake,
Thank you very much for the quick response,I will try and be on the I.R.C channel around that time,I'll look forword to be seeing you all there.
If I have time,I'll try and post my test reaults early in the table on the wiki page.
I' m pretty sure tests 1 and 3 will pass,as I have been using the driver from the repository for sometime with no real problems. It's test 2 which I'm not certain about, but will try it when I install Mplayer.
Regards,
STEVE555

Ok, surprisingly the livecd boots up and the tests work fine with my 8600M GT, but the boot process takes an age, is that due to debugging features in the alpha?
Also, my network interface doesn't work with the default drivers in the livecd so I can't submit the results from the session, I guess rebooting to F10 and submitting the smolt profile from there is acceptable?
In any case, impressed with nouveau!
Why don't you ask people to check if direct rendering is enabled in glxinfo? (many will think the slow performance of glxgears means there is a problem when in reality there probably isn't)
