Eat your heart out Tom

Ive always said if you want it done right then ask the Brits.

Of course I have no idea if this is true or not but I would guess it is. I also heard rumors (no sources though) that during the same period the US foot sloggers went through a British jungle warfare school too.

Can any of you older chaps deny or confirm this?

And please feel free to disable this thread if it turns into a (were better than you type of rant, which is not my intention).

Interesting, never really considered the Navy being that good in the air.

Who are the Red Arrows with - I'd assume RAF not Navy?

But then again, the SAS are the best in the world at what they do - and they train SEAL's and eat Gurkha's for breakfast, washed down with a side of Delta Force

I wasn't aware of that, but it doesn't surprise me. I've known for years that the Brits and Aussies are head-and-shoulders ahead in competence in quite a few areas. The 'merkins have a lot of nice (expensive) kit, but we generally learn how to use it much better than they do (because we have to). I could cite examples, but men in dark suits would take me away .....

Edit: I could say generally that the value equation for the Americans is a bit different. If they had fewer forces to deploy in the first place, and suffered higher proportionate losses, they'd probably modify their approach a bit and make more out of what they've got (without the Brits et al having to give pointers ).

I think that's in the same chapter as the full listing of French (and Italian) Military Victories, Bob. <....>

The French have won a huge number of victories. I believe their overall record is actually better than nearly any other country - if not THE best.

Cheers

Duncan

P.S. I would search & cite examples, but I'm on the tube!

"I understand that it was the French who taught the Brits"

Considering the lengthy time we fought each other, I would say that's a decent assumption.

I believe Yorktown was the only significant French victory over the Brits (and yes Yorktown was French in conception and design).

Revenge for the loss of Canada. Should of let them keep it

As I recall (reading about) the French gave us a bit of a hand rousting a bunch of unwelcome layabout hoodlums from our own shores a few hundred years ago. <....>

It wouldn't suprise me if the school in Miramar was created with the help of the Brits. After all the 1st SFOD-D (known as Delta Force) was modeled after techniques and training used by the SAS.
