Question Upgrade Question

When I boot, an error message says:

Quote:
Error 16: Inconsistent files system structure.
Now, to be fair, I raised this question about two months ago, but this issue was never resolved. Then I got pulled away, for a while, blah, blah, blah,...

Now, I'm wondering if the error would be resolved if I just upgraded, from f9 to f10.

Does that sound plausible?

did you try and fschk the file system?

do you only have one drive and one directory like ith LVM on it?

are you using ext3, xfs, raiser, fat32 ...?

it might be easier to do a clean install?
if you do, it's good time to put that /home on it's own partition with out any LVM or anything wired.

Best of Luck,
Pat Jr.

1. "fschk" sounds familiar, but I forget.

How do I try it?

2. F9 is on one drive.

3.

4. You mean re-install f9?

1. sorry it's fsck I have never had to use it so I don't know the steps. I do know the file system has to be unmounted so you will probably need to boot off of a rescue CD or the install media.

here is a google link I came accross
http://www.beginlinux.org/mod/resource/view.php?id=645

also, you might find Linux answers in google a little faster with
http://www.google.com/linux

2. default install? that means you are using LVM so the file system is a bit trickier

3. I think the default is LVM with xfs

4. no, I was thinking of an f10 clean install, kind of neanderthal but whatever works
Make sure you have a good backup of your data before doing anything else.

Good Luck,
Pat Jr.

I think I'll go the f10 route; I was planning on upgrading soon, anyway. So, this might be a good opportunity, for that. There is nothing vital on that computer.

I suppose the procedure would be to download f10 and then install from a disk. Right?

On the other hand, it just occurred to me that I might have some important stuff - like servers set up. So, perhaps I had better get the f9 working, first.

So, I'll follow your advice, above, first.

Thanks!
