Intel video issues???

I installed a fresh copy of FC11 last week and decided to apply the 1200+ updates last night. When I got back to my system this morning it was in an odd state. Any mouse movement or keystroke would show me the solar flares background but no screensaver unlock would come up. I could switch to a tty, but nothing graphical.

I rebooted. Oops. After that I could not get to anything. Plymouth would finish and the cursor would appear on the black screen and then the perpetual flicker would begin. I couldn't get to a tty and gdm never came up.

I have the Intel GM965/GL960 in a Lenovo T61.

Any hints or ideas? I've seen some posts about selinux and such but haven't read through enough yet to find a useful tip.

I've been there, but I'd hate to just post a flat fail across the board. I suppose I can try to boot into rescue mode and see if I do have an xorg.conf, but I never created one and if FC11 is anything like FC10, then there shouldn't be an xorg.conf.

I'll give the live CD a try and see if that comes up. Maybe I need nomodset, it seems like it's trying to set a resolution and failing. I guess in the past, I'm used to xorg failing abd dumping to a tty login. Obviously not the case here.

The Live CD from the test site boots fine with a couple of errors, so it must be old remnants and new code conflicting. Maybe a fresh install from a live CD will work...
